Sowing
With Autumn only a few weeks away and the Moon Planting Calendar indicting Leaf and Flowering plants sowing was a major focus of the week. As most of these plants transplant quite well it is into cell trays they go until I have more space to play with.
So what went into the ground?
Silverbeet (Fordhook)
Brussel Sprouts
Spinach (Winter Giant)
Red Chickory
Broccoli ( Calabrese & Romanesco)
Mustard (Red Giant, Indian Saag & Green Wave)
Cabbage (Sugar Loaf & Chinese)
Potting Up and Planting Out
My first Brussel Sprout seedling made it into the ground. Along with quite a bit of Spinach, Silverbeet, Leek and Kale. At this point it seems that its really too hot for the Spinach and Kale as I lost both lots after they went in the ground. If I could get to them to water daily they might have a chance but right now the world seems to be conspiring to ensure that doesn't happen.
On the herb front I planted out the seedlings that I had potted up about 4 weeks ago. Flat Leaf Parsley, Dill, Cumin and Summer Savory all made it into the herb bed which will ensure that meals are a little more interesting for the end of Summer.
Harvest
My main harvest is still squash and beans with cherry tomatoes coming in slowly. Our weather for Feburary has been extremely mild to this point so although one of my tomato plants is absolutely loaded down with fruit it is stubbornly Green. If I am lucky the next week of forecast +30C days will start to hurry things along a little.

Looks just like my garden. I've given the zucchinis one bed and pumpkins another to try and contain them both! :)
Hi GoingFeral(ish),
I figured if I let the zucchini cascade down the front of the raised bed it would take up less "garden space". Seems to be working so far and has the added benefit of keeping the plant all spread out to reduce the sooty mold problems.
Kind Regards

my garden is in exactly the same state. i occasionally forget to check the zucchini and of course find behemoths 2 days later. the pumpkin has finally fruited, much to my excitement.
speaking of such things, it's sauce-tomato-in-a-box season!
Hi Maia,
Great to hear that your pumpkin is fruiting... I know mine had quite a few false starts before it got the boy, girl flowers going at the same time.
It most certainly is sauce tomato in a box season... sounds like pasta sauce in the planning.
Kind Regards
Belinda
